Bread Lab Bakery in Fulham Reach, London, involved a lot more than just the bakery shop design and is a great example of the full turn-key service Liqui Group can offer our clients. As well as the bakery interior design itself, we followed the whole process through, from render to reality, providing initial concept designs, photo-realistic renders, 3D visuals, full specifications, building control consultancy, liaising with the landlord, fit-out and full project management through to completion. In addition, they provided all of the furniture and lighting including custom made shelving and banquet seating.

For this particular retail design project the client, who was passionate about baking, wanted the bakery cafe interior design to reflect the skill and science behind the art of making bread. The minimal, laboratory aesthetic of the retail space, with its clean lines and lack of decorative elements, creates a contrasting backdrop to the rustic quality of the artisanal bread on display. To complete the look they designed and manufactured a bespoke lab table for the centre of the café which was topped off with plug sockets for customers’ laptops and phones.

To bring the bakery shop design to life it took considerable planning and application on the part of the Liqui team. As well as factoring in all aspects of M.E.P. (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) to create a fully functioning commercial bakery café there were several specific problems that needed to be overcome. When it came to the H.V.A.C. (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning) there was a complicated ventilation system that had to be installed including plenums, overhead and basement ducting, odor neutralizers and condensers so that baking smells didn’t escape to the high-end apartments above. Because the bakery unit was a new-build shell they also had to contend with raising the floor to the correct height. This involved the careful pouring of concrete which was then ground, honed and polished to the required finish.
