About the project
The Japanese architect’s intervention is a tribute to Gaudí’s use of Mediterranean light in Casa Batlló. Kriskadecor chain links dress the new eight-storey staircase, capturing the light and creating an ever-changing experience from the brightness of the rooftop to the dark depths of the coal bunkers. The chains have been worked into layers with colour gradients, forming a second skin which, thanks to its organic forms, fits perfectly into the universe of the modernist genius. Each floor is unique, and the visitor experiences a total immersion.
The project also posed the challenge of finding a sound neutralising solution. To this end, the development and innovation department of the Montblanc company created innovative acoustic panels that cover the ceiling above the chains and successfully counteract the noise.
