About the project
To the east of Alassio between Albenga and Imperia, in a sunny location, the Diana hotel sits a few meters from the beach, offering splendid sea views. MMA Projects was requested by the client to do a completely functional, technical and aesthetic adaptation of the old hotel complex dating back to the 50s, and to create a modern, country hotel but with an Italian heart.
The interior work involved redistributing the spaces to expand the number of rooms from 70 to 80, and to upgrade them to current modern standards. The facades have been designed and built for two different volumes with very different functions. The lower, containing the guest rooms has a permeable light skin that has been applied to large windows and brise soleil in the form of decorative shovels. The higher, containing some private apartments and service offices, the concept provides an iconic façade that allows establishing a direct dialogue with the external guests and citizens, becoming a symbol of the Hotel’s image. Both facades are non invasive with no substantial changes to the existing openings, but applied like a second coat, respecting the historical nature of the building.
An infinity pool was added facing the beach, with a lounge area and an outdoor restaurant. The colour palette here is bright, with arboreal materials and inspiration taken from the Ligurian countryside to give a fresh, new effect, yet retaining the rural, country flavour.
