About the project
When designing the embassy in Abu Dhabi, Ars Projekt aimed to create an interior that presents Nordic aesthetics, minimalist form, and natural materials. The goal was to establish a contrast with the scorching sun outside and achieve the effect of freshness, coolness, and soft twilight through the interior. The design utilized materials characteristic of Estonia, including dark oak on the walls and furniture, and Estonia’s national stone limestone on the floor. To counterbalance these elements, a bar covered with light marble was deliberately introduced.
In search of connecting links between the two very different cultures and traditions, inspiration was drawn from the similarity in the geometry of ornaments in both Estonian and Arabic culture. This inspiration found expression in 3D printed versions of Estonian brooches, which are prominently displayed on the walls of the embassy.
