About the project
M’OISHÎ, Dubai Opera is the leading Japanese ice-cream provider’s outlet in the GCC region, which promises to bring a fine taste of authentic luxury in a panoply of exciting flavours. Designed by 4Space and executed by Blueprint Emirates Interiors, the client’s brief was a concept that was inspired by Japanese traditions. It had to reflect the variety of its products through the design – colourful, authentic and playful.
Incorporating all the Japanese elements in a small space was essential. But the main challenge was how to integrate the Mochi ice cream itself and its flavours into the design in a unique way. This challenge was answered by producing a bamboo LED lighting feature, with changing colours. This was able to create a visual excitement as well as public engagement. The different colours represented all the flavours of the Japanese ice-cream and the rounded lights signified the shape of Mochi.
The result of combining all the Japanese elements was remarkable. The use of terrazzo took it to the next level! The addition of a circular pattern and different shades that resemble a Zen Garden, of rock and sand, were the other next-level design elements. On the wall, a Japanese mural was added. It was inspired by the florals of Kimono and intended to create a tranquil ambience.
For a touch of nature, a Bonsai Tree was added for harmony and balance. To reflect the traditions of making a rice dough, wooden barrels were used as tables with real grains of rice on the inside. And to complete the overall concept, bamboo rods were used as a ceiling feature. This included a dimming technology that changed the café’s mood, every minute. Ultimately, the design aimed to create an exceptional piece and was able to deliver an “Instagram-able” moment.
