About the project
Monograph Freedom Square – redefining luxury in the boutique hotel industry, designed by Studio Proact. Unique for attention to details, individualism and comfort. A place where the past, present and future meets. Cultural and historic authenticity, derived from the fact that it resides in the historical district of Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi. Housed in XIX-XX century landmark building, studio Proact decided to retain its pristine look, by using a mix of classical and modern architectural patterns. Their goal was to create a luxury environment based on a conceptual design, which was achieved through a harmonious mixing of texture, colors, materials, and existing space. The products were carefully selected by the studio and supplied by Motif Design Elements, a first multi-brand showroom, which has been operative in Tbilisi since 1996.
The design concept is based on stories, sketches, writings, and books about Georgia by famous travelers starting from the XII century. (Jean Chardin, Joseph Pitton de Tournefort, Alexandre Dumas, John Steinbeck, Pietro Della Valle, etc.) Every guest experience and adventure adds a new entry in the long chain of travel views. In here, every corner has a story to tell. All of this is incorporated and well expressed from the very first experience, by entering the hotel reception. Starting from the one-line artworks of the portraits of the travelers, to the furnishings of the finest European brands.
A focal point in the design is the staircase. The banister was inspired from the original rails, which was then re designed to be simpler, preserving the authentic look, making it more modern. A custom made twenty nine meter vertical chandelier is acting as a true backbone of the spiral staircase. Stretched to connect a ground to the sky, making it the tallest chandelier in the history of Giopato & Coombes. Made exclusively for Monograph Hotel in collaboration with Proact Studio. This sculptural chandelier celebrates one of the precious national treasures – crown and glory of the Georgian language written in old Georgian alphabet, a mystical poem rich in numerological symbolism and biblical references.
