About the project
Occasionally, we come across a project that simply instills awe. The sheer beauty and elegance in its design just begs for accolades. Stickman Tribe’s latest hospitality project in the Maldives, the Waldorf Astoria, exudes an eloquent design narrative. There is nature fused into biodome like structures that create a canopy, enclosing multiple private seating areas. Certain indoor spaces transport you to cave-like wonder with white, rough stone walls. The wine cellar, in particular, holds a vast collection on minimal stands embedded into the wall, as if the bottles were levitating outward.
All this is wonderfully offset with traditional East Asian wood detailing juxtaposed against a canvas that is mostly modern and linear. In a sense, the Waldorf Astoria has it all in one design palette, yet remains subtle and exotic.
