Herman Miller Living Office Awards 2018-19

The first edition of the Herman Miller Living Office Awards was officially launched at Downtown Design 2018. The competition aims to raise awareness of the importance of good workspace design, and to encourage companies to achieve their organisational goals. It credits designers and their firms for their contribution towards fostering creativity and collaboration within the Architecture & Design community.

“The design of workspace has entered a new phase. Beyond just simple planning, designers are now part curators, scientists, and psychologists too, all carrying a high degree of understanding in the realms of business strategy, workflow and organisational design” – Rob Keddie, Regional Director, MEA of Herman Miller

REWARDING GREAT DESIGN

The submissions will be rated on key elements such as absorption of Herman Miller furniture within the office. They must also look into a company’s focus on investing in workspace design, and providing individuals with a healthy, high-performance ergonomic environment that encourages a range of collaborative activities.

The winners of the Living Office Awards will be announced at Herman Miller’s Regional Design Centre on 16 April, 2019. All shortlisted and winning entries will be published on the awards site and shared via social media channels, bringing significant recognition to the designers and firms. The winners will also receive USD 5000 to be spent on Herman Miller furniture, with two designers scoring the unique opportunity to visit Herman Miller’s National Design Centre in London and their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Portal Mill, Melksham, UK.

Design proposals will be accepted from the Middle East and Africa region, in two categories – Commercial Business and People’s Choice, and must demonstrate creative use of office space to develop a unique work atmosphere that best serves the company.

Submission Deadline: Entrants can submit their designs until March 05, 2019 to be shortlisted by an independent panel of judges reigning from the design fraternity.

Rob Keddie, Regional Director, Middle East and Africa of Herman Miller stated, “The design of workspace has entered a new phase. The role of the designer as well as those of the facility or workspace manager is quickly changing. Beyond just simple planning, designers are now part curators, scientists, and psychologists too, all carrying a high degree of understanding in the realms of business strategy, workflow and organisational design. More than ever before, the workplace emerges as a strategic lever for driving change.”
