The highly anticipated SBID International Design Awards revealed their 2019 winners in a dazzling ceremony at the Grosvenor House in Mayfair, London.
Currently in its ninth edition, the annual event, held on Oct 25th, saw inspiration and creative talent from over 48 countries, with winning projects from the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Qatar, Poland, Barbados, Monaco, Japan, Indonesia, Brazil, Australia and more.
All 15 categories are assessed strictly on quality by a technical panel, a public vote, and a panel of leading industry experts who look for outstanding examples of technical content and aesthetic creativity.
The SBID Awards were recently accredited as the first interior design awards scheme to achieve GOLD standard by The Independent Awards Standards Council.
This year, the Overall Winner Award was given to Mexican-based practice, Roth Architects, for their Uh May Residence in Mexico. Located in the iconic town of Tulum, in the Yucatán Peninsula, the habitable sculpture is devoid of straight lines or sharp angles, and blends harmoniously with the organic shapes in its surrounding environment, whilst also respecting and honouring the natural habitat that hosts it.
The use of ferro-cement was specifically chosen to avoid the introduction of heavy machinery into the jungle, while the finish was carefully crafted with local materials. Maintaining the highest attention to detail with amenities for entertainment, the property redefines life in the jungle and promotes a non-invasive dialogue between architecture and its natural surroundings.
