About the project
Babaji, Dubai is a Turkish restaurant that promises a casual dining experience with ‘Pide’ – the popular Turkish pizza – at the heart of its menu. Situated at City Walk, this restaurant has been designed by David Archer of Archer Humphreys Architects who was also responsible for the build and design of Babaji, London. The fit-out works were completed by Al Tayer Stocks and the project was managed by Arcadis.
Spread across the ground and the first floor, the restaurant comes with its signature wood-fired ovens that sit at the heart of Babaji dishing out its special varieties of Pide. The interior decoration is, both, modern and abstract with walls and ceiling covered in an intense blue geometric ceramic tiles. The textured ceramic finish bounces soft lighting around the spaces and creates a warm and attractive dining ambience, within a distinctive and modern idiom.
This project is another step towards the designer’s practice of developing interior spaces within a modern expression that respond to locations – emotionally, culturally and aesthetically. Some of the highlights of the interiors include the stencilled concrete plaster, Turkish handmade wall tiles, Corten steel spiral staircase and balustrade, Corten steel and timber veneer window screens and bespoke joinery works.
Besides the fit-out works, Al Tayer Stocks was also responsible for the MEP, IT, AV and Security aspects of the project. The scope of their work included the joinery, gypsum, flooring, wall and ceiling finishes and the structural staircase.
