About the project
Giovanni Pina, a 100-year-old Italian Pasticceria brand, planned their first business expansion outside of Italy in Hong Kong. Designed and built by Office Urban: I Limited, the main dining area of the new restaurant is suspended within the atrium of one of the top shopping mall complexes there. The design took inspiration from Italian architecture and streetscape, intending to create a high end, open air and photogenic space. The challenge was for the design to integrate naturally with the mall’s richly decorated interior, while simultaneously creating a strong brand presence.
Key features include the bespoke design and manufacture of the purple, marble patterned, fiberglass wall decor panels, bringing an instantly memorable identity. Precisely formed electroplated steel structures bring reference to majestic Italian cathedral interiors. Custom designed, vintage style lamp fixtures bring a sense of romanticism, and are both delightful to the eye as well as through the lens of a camera.
