About the project
Located at Bay Square in Dubai, PizzaExpress Live is designed to be a venue that incorporates a live stage for bands, comedy and potentially other events. Designed by Harrison, the fit-outs in the venue have been executed by Khansaheb Interiors.
The client was a well-known global brand; so, it was necessary to ensure that there was a sense of familiarity to the venue. At the same time, it was located at a very erudite location, this gave the designers the comfort to push the boundaries and gave them some creative freedom in terms of the finishes. The interiors were designed to keep the place recognizable to its brand while adding a rawness to the fabric of the space.
The layout of the scheme is fundamental. It creates two distinct zones: one area for classic dining and the other for a great bar experience, with a seamless transitional space connecting them. Both the areas are, however, influenced directly by the strategically-placed live stage area.
There is also a well-placed mezzanine level that snakes around the outer wall and forms a viewing gantry down on to the stage. All this offers guests a set of choices – they can either dine and enjoy the entertainment, drink and graze on snacks and enjoy the entertainment or drink/dine and get up close and personal to the entertainment!
By any standards, PizzaExpress has a proud and long heritage. The designers also commissioned a Dubai-based art group called the Art Painting Lab. They created a truly unique collection of work celebrating just some of the performing artists that have graced PizzaExpress Live.
Music and sound quality is key to the place, so an acoustic ceiling system was added to the scheme.
