The Graphite Home, Surat

An apartment in Rajkot, Surat, assembled and fabricated with its own glossary of monochromes, is simple yet expressive and sharply designed by I.D Kalpesh Tanna , Principal Designer , Atelier Interior. Intended with minimalistic design structure and a palpable appearance in the 2700 sq ft home, the designer achieves a uniform rhythm of soft graphite palette, plentiful of daylight and modern aesthetics well concocted within.

Chromatic gradients, drawn from nature is the absolute protagonist, but it is never excessive. The space ensures openness and free flow of spaces in the common spaces culminating into natural aesthetics and splendorous warmth.⁠ A meditative and an eclectic home emerged into a living countenance of materiality, where in each room speaks of figurative characteristics.

Walking through the living room, encounters to a charcoal panoramic of gray blending with natural woods and velvet Albrecht blue fabrics. Modelling minimalistic monochrome scheme, the living room conjectures with the dining .The exposed concrete ceiling here and also extended into the rest of the apartment is deliberately designed to tie all the spaces together and add to the reflection of the dwellers ideology.

The designer decided to bring in shades of blue into the space and compliment it with warm and dark tones of wood on the wall murals and dining table pulling in a modern raw outlook. The idea of bringing in the shades of grey with plain walls and accented soft furnishings acts as a balancer that accommodates the mono-graphic palette with soft natural blues. Nurturing and nourishing with tranquil aesthetics, the focus leads to the exposed ceiling with horizontally stretched wooden blocks with profile lights. Crafted into light, airy and comfortable setting, the living room leads to three bedrooms projecting a common source of belief with spectrum personalities.
