About the project
Schwitzke & Partner did the redesign for Virgin Megastore’s flagship outlet at The Dubai Mall in collaboration with Kalandoor Group Company. The urban retail concept is a hub for the latest gadgets in music, fashion, stationery, multimedia, gaming, books and toys. The store design emphasises the diversity of its product range, as each department – Electronics, Gaming, Outdoor, Fashion and House – is characterised with individual materials and architectural elements, such as frames, portals, signages and ceiling ornamentation. The overall look is clean and inviting, and kept sleek in white, concrete and light coloured wood.
With two entrances, the heart of the store is the RedBox for ticketing, customisation, support, etc. The ceiling identifies the main circulation path as well as the orientation points, while the entrances and cash counter are highlighted with the brand’s bold Virgin Red colour to catch customers’ attention. CDs and DVDs, vinyl and musical instruments are presented on specially designed fixtures in dark grey and OSB wood, and the Gaming Zone has its own dedicated area designed in a warehouse style with brick walls and LED boxes at the entrances.
