Judges announced for the “Talking Walls” Design Challenge

The Talking Walls competition brings together an impressive lineup of international and regional design professionals.

Casa Milano, in collaboration with Love That Design and Intelier, presents “Talking Walls: Reimagining the Bathroom Experience.” This innovative design challenge brings together six talented interior design teams to create groundbreaking bathroom designs that challenge traditional notions. 

Drawing inspiration from randomly chosen words, the teams will create unique bathroom concepts mentored by their senior professionals. With access to premium resources and materials from renowned brands, the designs will be showcased at exhibitions and captured on camera. The competition offers awards, including a trip to Europe, and aims to inspire designers to think outside the box and reimagine the bathroom experience. 

Casa Milano will transform each design concept into a mockup every month from May to November. Intelier will capture these designs on camera, revealing them one by one on Love That Design’s website. The six mockups will be showcased to the public at the Downtown Design fair, allowing design teams and visitors to experience them firsthand. The competition will be exhibited during Dubai Design Week in November, where the winning design will be announced.

Khadija Al Bastaki – Senior Vice President of Dubai Design District (d3)

As the driving force behind strategic initiatives, Khadija Al Bastaki plays a pivotal role in positioning Dubai as a global hub for design and creativity. With her profound influence in the fashion and creative industries, she has orchestrated groundbreaking events such as Dubai Fashion Week and Dubai Design Week. These platforms have not only showcased the talents of designers but have also fostered collaboration and community engagement, further establishing Dubai’s position as a global fashion capital.

Laura C. Bielecki – Associate Director of Interiors at Nakheel

With a career spanning over 17 years, Laura C. Bielecki has redefined residential design in the UAE. Her expertise extends beyond residential projects to encompass high-rise buildings, office spaces, and hospitality establishments across the GCC. Through her keen eye for detail and innovative approach, she has left an indelible mark on the design landscape, elevating the standards of interior design in the region.

Mario Romano – Founder of M|R Walls

Mario Romano, the visionary behind M|R Walls, has revolutionized architecture with his patented product for 3D carved surfaces. His creations, using Corian, have enabled unparalleled mass customization, allowing designers to bring their visions to life in ways never seen before. With prestigious clients such as Mercedes, SpaceX, and collaborations with esteemed A&D firms like Gensler and Zaha Hadid, M|R Walls has become the global leader in digital design and fabrication.

Anna Barbara – Architect, Professor, and Chairwoman of POLI.design

Anna Barbara’s passion lies in exploring the interplay of senses, time, space, and design. As an associate professor in Interior and Spatial Design at Politecnico di Milano and a lecturer at leading universities worldwide, she brings a wealth of expertise and international perspectives to her work. Her contributions to the global design community have garnered immense respect, propelling her as a thought leader in the field.

Juan Roldan Martin – Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Advanced Architecture and Urbanism (CAAU)

Juan Roldan Martin’s expertise in urban interiors and his directorship of the prestigious Center for Advanced Architecture and Urbanism at the American University of Sharjah make him a valuable asset to the panel. His unique perspective and insights into the intersection of architecture, urbanism, and design have garnered international recognition. Marisa Santamaría – Researcher, Disseminator, and Professor

With roles as the Design and Architecture Advisor for the Spanish Government’s Programa de Internacionalización Cultura de España and the Director of “ATLAS de la Cultura del Diseño en España,” her insights and recommendations hold immense value. Her contributions to research and dissemination solidify her influential position in the design industry.
