Fender Collection featuring Kvadrat Fabrics

Aren’t capsule collections the most exciting thing ever? The opportunity to feast your eyes on them for a limited time makes them unmissable. Leveraging this, True Design called upon Francesco Favaretto, the designer of one of their most unique collections, to collaborate with Kvadrat Fabrics. Read on to find out how it turned out…

Dubai Design Week 2023 was a sparkling time for the region. With design enthusiasts flocking to Dubai Design District (the beating heart of it all), it was only natural for first-time participants, True Design, to aim to get the most out of it.

Paolo Townshend, Director – MENA region, True Design, wanted to leave an indelible mark on potential clients while showcasing their enthusiasm for bespoke design. So, when the opportunity to collaborate with Kvadrat arose, he deemed it fate. He immediately liaised with one of their most trusted design partners, Francesco Favaretto. To everyone’s delight, Francesco was up for the challenge. “He finished it in record time”, exclaimed an effervescent Paolo.

The Fender Collection is perhaps one of True Design’s most stylistic chairs and sofas. From the easily recognisable, majestic armrest to the subtle, single ripple the metal creates against upholstery, this collection by Francesco Favaretto is a class in contemporary design.

When re-visualising his labour of love, Francesco embarked on a more vibrant approach over the seats’ original, subdued tones. “It wasn’t a straight-forward concept either,” Francesco shares. “Since we were not using a single fabric to upholster the seats, it took time and patience to curate each. It might look like a random assortment, but it is not.”

When you first look at the Capsule Collection, it is a welcome departure from the usual soothing tonalities. While neutral shades are timeless, eccentric and joyful pieces deliver bold statements. From Kvadrat’s repertoire, solid colours from Steelcut 3, Steelcut Quartet, Sisu and Raf Simons’ Aaren were used for the upholstery. The chairs effortlessly highlighted the production principles of resistance, sustainability, a high degree of comfort and refined design.

True Design’s launch with Kvadrat even bode well with designers and other industry professionals. They ran their fingers, feeling the textures and gave into the plushness of the collection. Francesco, Paolo and the True Design team were congratulated by spectators on delivering a resounding success.
