Upholstery, Outdoors & Interiors: Spradling’s Choicest Picks

Nothing beats the satisfaction of witnessing the wonder and excitement when customers enter a new restaurant or employees step into a freshly refurbished office. To a designer, that initial reaction is when they sigh with relief. “Well, at its worst, at least it looks good”, they think. As months pass by, the design team hears reviews about the functionality of the spaces, and only then do they discover how their efforts have been received.

In either of these stages, it is the attention to details that determine success. Picking and placing a piece of furniture in a space is simple, but coordinating furniture with soft furnishings and accents and synchronising it with the client’s vision requires a savant. For example, sometimes, a chair can be the perfect addition to a setting, but only if it is upholstered to match the need (stain removal, heat resistance, etc.) and vibe of the surrounding elements.

Spradling®, a well-known name in coated fabrics, boasts an impressive range of upholstery solutions. From corporate to hospitality, these products can bedeck areas to make them appear more welcoming and well-curated. What’s most admirable is how most of these collections are Carbon Neutral, which contributes to maintaining carbon neutrality in the manufacturing process, and have accrued prominent certifications such as GreenGuard, Indoor Air Quality and A+ for interior air emissions.

The collection’s meticulous design doesn’t just stop at aesthetics—it seamlessly extends to functionality. With a focus on durability, these fabrics are engineered to withstand the demands of both indoor elegance and outdoor resilience. Here’s a rundown of a few….

The Kizuna Collection is the result of an alliance between Spradling® and Citel®. Named after the Japanese term “Kizuna,” which emphasises standing together through challenges, the collection embodies the beauty of imperfection and impermanence, inspired by the Wabi-Sabi aesthetics concept.

The patterns featured in the Kizuna Collection visually depict these inklings. Checker, characterised by its interwoven linear precision, evokes rustic sensations inspired by nature and presents adaptable modular chess designs. Artisan pays tribute to artisans worldwide by blending tradition with modernity through a colour palette reminiscent of natural dyes and pigments. Tweed, intricately fashioned with a twill-woven structure, encapsulates diversity and uniqueness in a robust and resilient fabric.

Kizuna Collection is water-repellent, washable, and thermally stable for Marine and Outdoor applications. Garden chairs with nubby textures and earthy hues can now be a visual treat and resilient at the same time.

MAGLIA is one of Spradling’s most loved fabrics. Designed by their expert global team, this range usurps its muse from the classic “Oxford” pattern. MAGLIA exudes a natural aesthetic with slightly thicker yarn fibres, providing a cosy touch for interior and exterior spaces. For those looking to take it a notch further and play with textures, this collection complements Spradling’s acclaimed SILVERTEX® and VALENCIA collections.

Beyond its beauty, MAGLIA boasts exceptional resistance and durability, forming a protective barrier against germs, abrasion, and stains. Equipped with a PERMABLOK finish, it ensures smart protection for furniture designs. Meeting the highest technical standards for Contract and Marine applications, MAGLIA is Fire Resistant Certified (IMO, MED, M2 & EN 1021), impermeable, and PHTHALATE-FREE—a premium solution for sophisticated furniture innovations. In restaurants and cafes catering to a theme, this collection can be a channel to introduce colour and style simultaneously.

Tannery, Spradling’s Indulge premium faux leather repertoire is nearly indistinguishable from genuine leather. Soft as can be, this collection comes in 24 neutral tones and simplifies the removal of denim dye stains easily due to the PERMABLOKPLUS topcoat. Tannery excels in high-traffic indoor and outdoor public areas. These fabrics are a no-brainer for implying luxury in hospitality, corporate, or healthcare spaces.

Engineered for extreme weather conditions, UV resistance, and water resistance, it covers diverse interior surfaces such as ceilings, bed frames, panels, and control desks while also serving as upholstery for furniture. Overall, Tannery offers aesthetics and functionality and ensures a hassle-free maintenance experience.

As with every range, the inspiration behind the ValenciaC5 Heritage Collection is strong too. The architecture of the Industrial Revolution and illustrious European Skylines impart a classic look to these fabrics.‎ The Heritage Collection maintains its predecessor, Valencia’s technical properties, such as Crib 5 FR resistance.

Although this range is yet another faux-leather option, its muted grains and sombre colours lend themselves to more specific applications. For instance, the Valencia C5 Heritage Collection could build on the dated and nuanced storyline in a bar or living area with a retro focus.

Last but not least, we have Linetex®, which mimics the calmness and cogency of linen fibres. A tasteful aesthetic for a region known for its scorching summers is tranquil and subdued. Spradling’s Linetex® not only conveys the raw essence of design vividly and boasts superior heat-reflecting functionality. This coated fabric possesses a pleasing touch courtesy of PERMACOOL®, Spradling’s recent technology, that protects surfaces from overheating even during the most torrid afternoons.
