About the project
Maersk, a Danish integrated shipping company, is active in ocean and inland freight transportation and associated services, such as supply chain management and port operation. Maersk has been the largest container ship and supply vessel operator in the world since 1996. The company is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, with subsidiaries and offices across 130 countries and around 80,220 employees in 2018.
For their new Dubai offices, they decided to move closer to their other brand division by taking three full floors in the Burj Al Salam Tower. The design brief was to create more flexible, breakout spaces with a mostly open plan layout and few dedicated closed offices, with the aim of developing more social interaction and collaboration areas. Throughout the three floors and 31,000 square foot floor plate, the design team strategically placed a number of lounge spaces to accommodate multiple needs – singular focused work, hot desking and informal team meetings. The perimeter of the floor is dedicated to open plan and collaboration spaces and the core of the space is allocated to informal meeting rooms, phone booths and meeting pods.
Additional flexibility was offered by a multi-purpose room adjoining the canteen area, which acts as both a lunch area and an enclosed meeting space. It also allows for large Town Hall meetings when used in conjunction with the canteen area. The office design has a Scandinavian appeal with calm tones and collaboration areas. The secondary branding has bursts of more colourful accents that come into play in the furniture and textiles.
